Falckenstein

Falckenstein is a sandy beach along the Kiel Fjord featuring gently sloping shoreline and shallow water zones ideal for swimming. The coastal area extends for several kilometers and divides into distinct sections for different recreational activities.

The name comes from an old fortification that guarded the Friedrichsort fortress and controlled maritime passage. The area remained under military use for many decades before being converted to public recreation.

The beach serves different groups throughout the day: swimmers enjoy the shallow areas while water sports enthusiasts work the deeper sections. The promenade connects the shoreline to nearby residential areas and creates a natural gathering space for locals and visitors.

The location offers toilets, accessible walkways, and leisure facilities including beach volleyball and mini-golf for different activities. Two food stands serve meals and drinks throughout the day.

An artificial reef built in 2001 creates habitats for algae and fish species in the water. Underwater seagrass meadows grow at depths of 2 to 4 meters offshore.
