Altes Elektrizitätswerk, Historic power plant in Cottbus, Germany.
The Altes Elektrizitätswerk features neo-Gothic architecture with green-glazed bricks and consists of three parallel structures including a prominent machine hall.
Built between 1902 and 1903 by Siemens & Halske following Richard Bachsmann's design, the facility initially powered Cottbus tram lines and household connections.
The former power plant represents industrial development in Brandenburg, showing the transition from water mill technology to electrical power generation.
Following extensive renovations in 2013, the historical building now houses engineering offices and residential spaces while maintaining its architectural character.
The structure stands at the location of two former half-timbered mills that burned down in 1882, leading to the city's decision to build an electrical plant.
