Plänterwald, Protected forest area in Treptow-Köpenick, Germany.
Plänterwald is a protected forest covering roughly 90 hectares between Alt-Treptow and Baumschulenweg in southeastern Berlin. The area runs alongside the Spree River and features mixed woodlands with numerous paths for walking and cycling.
The area originated in 1760 as a managed forest and received official protected status in 1998. This long history demonstrates how the land was maintained as a woodland landscape from the beginning.
The forest serves as a gathering place where people from the surrounding neighborhoods come to run, walk, and spend time outdoors. The paths through the trees are woven into the routines of local residents seeking a break from urban life.
The forest has multiple entry points and well-maintained paths for visitors to explore. Sturdy shoes are recommended for walking, and bringing water is sensible for longer visits.
Within the forest lie the remains of the former Spreepark amusement park, which operated from 1969 to 2001. The site is currently undergoing renovation and will become accessible to visitors in the coming years.
