Castle Plaue

Castle Plaue sits on the western bank of the Havel River where it exits Lake Plaue, displaying baroque architecture and a landscaped garden. The park extends south along the shoreline and connects different water features throughout the property.

The site was a strategic point between Brandenburg and Magdeburg from the 12th to 15th centuries, controlling river crossings. This position made it crucial for territorial control in the region during that period.

The cemetery on the grounds is accessed through the Angel Gate and displays sandstone angel sculptures from the 19th century. These burial sites reflect the long connection this place has held with the surrounding community.

The park grounds have been open to the public since 1935 and invite walks along the water's edge. The flat layout of the property makes exploring relatively easy and comfortable.

An old clay pigeon shooting range built around 1900 sits within the park and is considered the world's oldest preserved facility of its kind. This historical shooting site reveals the sporting uses of this location from a distant past.
