Leinawald, Nature reserve in Langenleuba-Niederhain and Nobitz, Germany
The Leinawald extends across 1,843.7 hectares of land, containing deciduous forests, wetlands, and riparian woodlands with native beech and oak trees.
Established as a protected area in 1961, the Leinawald includes archaeological findings from the Copper Age near the former Elisabeth Spring site.
The Märchensee, a water-filled former quarry within Leinawald, contains traces that suggest writer Karl May spent time there during childhood.
The reserve features marked trails for hiking and cycling, with the L 2460 road providing direct access through the protected territory.
The area houses multiple natural monuments protected since the German Democratic Republic era and serves as a European bird sanctuary.
