Schloss Drachenburg, Railway station at Schloss Drachenburg, Königswinter, Germany
Schloss Drachenburg is a middle station on the Drachenfels rack railway between Königswinter and the mountain summit. It sits on a steep slope and connects the valley station with the castle and upper station.
The station was built in 1883 as part of the new rack railway to bring visitors to Baron von Sarter's castle. It was designed from the start to serve growing tourism to the Drachenfels.
The station marks an era when railways brought people to attractions and turned such places into popular destinations. It shows how transportation and tourism grew together and reshaped the region.
Access is well marked, and the platform is surrounded by forest, so bringing rain protection is wise. During the season, trains run several times per hour, though off-season intervals are wider.
A narrow path leads directly from the platform up to the castle, a ten-minute walk through the forest. This hidden route is less known than the main entrance and offers visitors a quieter arrival.
