Burgkemnitz, Herrenhaus, Renaissance château in Muldestausee, Germany

Burgkemnitz Herrenhaus is a two-storey, three-winged building erected in 1869 in the Neo-Renaissance style, incorporating some older parts. It has two corner towers at the sides, and on the north side a basket-arched portal whose tympanum bears an inscription dated around 1696. The portals on the courtyard side come from the predecessor buildings, and much of the historic interior survives. A large park with several ponds belongs to the estate.

The estate grew out of a medieval moated castle and passed in 1665 from the von Koseritz family to Bodo von Bodenhausen, who founded the Burgkemnitz family line. The present three-winged building was erected in 1869 in Neo-Renaissance style for district administrator Hans Bodo Freiherr von Bodenhausen, incorporating older parts. The last owner until expropriation in the 1945 land reform was Hans Kraft Freiherr von Bodenhausen.

The estate passed from the von Koseritz family to Bodo von Bodenhausen in 1665, and for many generations his descendants carried Hans as their first name, among them the Merseburg canon Hans Friedrich von Bodenhausen (1768–1837). The last owner before the 1945 land reform was the district administrator Hans Kraft Freiherr von Bodenhausen.

The manor at Schlaitzer Straße 14 stands empty and is not open to visitors; the grounds belong to the Caritas-run St. Lorenz residential and support centre, whose newer buildings adjoin the site. The large park with its several ponds can be reached on foot from the village of Burgkemnitz in the Muldestausee municipality, and the surrounding landscape is best explored on foot or by bicycle.
