Haus Brühl, Residential building in Merzenhausen, Germany
Haus Brühl is a two-story brick building with a high hipped roof and basement level in the Brühlsfeld area of Merzenhausen. The house features large rectangular windows on the ground floor and smaller windows on the upper level.
Architect Ernst Walther designed and built this residential building between 1948 and 1949 for Dutch merchant Cornelius Hubert Coenen. It was constructed immediately after World War II as part of the post-war reconstruction.
The building displays post-war German design with red brick walls and carefully crafted details such as cornices and straight arches. It represents the practical construction style that became common in Germany after 1945.
The house is located approximately 400 meters southeast of Merzenhausen village center and is easily accessible from the surrounding area. The southwest facade is the main viewing side and displays the building's characteristic architectural features best.
The building features an altana, a balcony-like structure accessible from the upper floor that is not immediately visible from the main entrance. This design was unusual for residential houses of that period.
