U-10, Submarine museum in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
The submarine U-10, a Type 205 vessel, is a former German Navy warship now on display at the harbour. Visitors can walk through the interior and see the control room, engine section, and tight crew quarters.
The navy built the submarine in the late 1960s and operated it in northern Germany until the early 1990s. After decommissioning, it was converted into a museum vessel open to the public.
The narrow passageways and low ceilings show how confined daily life was for the crew aboard. Walking through the galley and sleeping quarters makes the limited personal space at sea feel real.
The visit involves climbing steep ladders and passing through narrow hatches, so sure footing is needed. Anyone uncomfortable in tight spaces can ask staff beforehand if a shorter tour is available.
The control room still holds the original instruments, including the periscope once used to spot ships. Looking through the lens now reveals the harbour instead of open water.
