Lipsia-Turm, Residential tower in Grünau district, Leipzig, Germany
Lipsia-Turm is a white residential tower 42 meters tall on Miltitzer Allee in Leipzig's Grünau district. A brown functional building attached to its south side houses additional facilities for the roughly 60 apartments inside.
The tower was completed in 2020 as the first new residential high-rise in Leipzig since German reunification. It was built on land where an older 11-story block previously stood.
The tower was designed specifically for older people and creates spaces for shared activities in common areas. Visitors quickly notice how the architecture is centered on residents' needs and encourages them to meet in everyday settings.
Apartments range from 30 to 110 square meters and are all accessible without barriers, featuring parquet flooring and underfloor heating throughout. The building offers concierge service and residents can access additional help including meal delivery and cleaning assistance.
The building was specifically planned for older residents and stands in a district dominated by large prefabricated apartment blocks. The contrast between this modern tower and surrounding buildings shows a completely different approach to housing for this age group.
