Rosa-Luxemburg-Denkmal, Monument in Schöndorf, Weimar, Germany

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Denkmal is an obelisk made from Ehringsdorfer travertine topped with a hammer and sickle symbol, accompanied by an inscription on an adjacent boulder. The structure stands at Rosa Luxemburg Square in Schöndorf and creates a clear focal point with its geometric form.

Erected on 30 April 1959 by the city of Weimar, forty years after Luxemburg's murder, the obelisk was designed by Siegfried Tschierschky and Franz Dospiel. It recalls her Weimar trial of 6 December 1906, when the Landgericht sentenced her to two months in prison for incitement to violence after her call for a mass strike at the Jena party congress of 21 September 1905. From 1945 the square bore her name, and the monument served the GDR and later the Left as a rallying point.
