Lausitz-Kaserne

Lausitz-Kaserne is a military installation near Doberlug-Kirchhain situated across a forested area. The facility contains administrative buildings, training areas, and residential quarters located about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) west of the town.

The site was transformed from a coal exploration facility between 1926 and 1959 into a military installation. During East Germany's period, it served as barracks for the National People's Army.

The barracks takes its name from the Lausitz region, linking local Brandenburg identity with military heritage.

The site sits in a forested area, which should be considered when planning a visit. The Bundeswehr operates a service center here that supports military installations across eastern Germany.

Parts of the barracks were converted into temporary shelters for refugees during 2015 and 2016. This adaptation shows how military facilities can be flexibly repurposed during times of need.
