Federseesteg, Wooden boardwalk in Bad Buchau, Germany.
The Federseesteg is a wooden pathway built through moorland and reed beds surrounding Federsee lake in Bad Buchau. Along the route there are several observation areas, benches, a viewing tower, and information boards about the local plants and animals.
The pathway was built in 1911 using wooden oak pilings as its foundation, representing an engineering achievement for that era. Major restoration work between 1949 and 2011 kept the structure sound and adapted it for modern use.
The boardwalk serves as a place where visitors can observe birds and plants directly from the pathway during their walk. Local organizations use it regularly to help people learn about the wildlife that lives in and around the lake.
The pathway is open year-round and offers a flat, easy walk through nature without demanding physical fitness. Spring and fall are the best times to visit when many birds are active and the weather is pleasant.
Workers can only repair or expand the boardwalk during winter when the moorland ground is frozen solid enough to support heavy equipment. This means major maintenance happens only under very specific weather conditions.
