Kirche Prohlis, Lutheran church in Prohlis, Dresden, Germany
Kirche Prohlis is a church building in Dresden distinguished by its tent-like roof with a small cross at the gable, harmoniously integrated among residential high-rises. The structure contains spaces for worship services, community gatherings, and programs serving people of various ages.
The church opened in 1982 as part of the construction program Churches for New Towns, addressing the needs of the growing community in this newly developed area. A distinctive 30-meter tower was added after German reunification, defining the building's skyline profile.
The name Prohlis comes from the Slavic settlement that once stood here, and the church reflects this heritage through its modern design that respects the area's post-war identity. The space brings together residents from the surrounding neighborhoods for both spiritual gatherings and secular community events throughout the year.
The building is easily reached on foot through the residential blocks of the neighborhood, and its distinctive roof shape makes it simple to locate even when unfamiliar with the area. Visitors should know that the spaces are used primarily for community activities during the week and for worship services on weekends.
The building houses a Jehmlich organ from 1988 with thirteen registers that produces uncommon sounds within the neighborhood. Two bronze bells named Faith and Love hang in the tower, their tones sounding different depending on the time of day and weather conditions.
