Hotel Central, Heritage hotel in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany.
Hotel Central is located on Walther-Rathenau-Straße and provides comfortable guest rooms alongside an on-site steakhouse featuring Mediterranean and Argentinian food. The building combines lodging and dining services in a single structure.
Dörings Konzerthaus was built in 1868 west of the old town on Kaiserstraße, now Walther-Rathenau-Straße, as a garden restaurant that also hosted theatre. The owner received a liquor licence in 1901, the year of an extension. In 1929 the hotel wing was added, giving the building its present form. Renamed Hotel Central in 1949, it became an HO hotel in the 1960s; a major fire on 19 February 1969 destroyed the ballroom and parts of the restaurant and mirror hall, which were not rebuilt.
The house was long a club venue: the Bitterfeld aviation association met here at times, and from 5 to 10 October 1932 it hosted the 42nd federal congress of the Saale chess federation. The corner tower now holds a restaurant run by the hotel.
The hotel sits about 24 kilometers from Halle/Leipzig Airport and provides free parking on site. Public transportation near the location makes it straightforward to reach.
The hotel's south facade on Robert-Schumann-Platz is split into four parts: a corner tower on the left, two window axes with a shared shop window and dormer, a three-axis central risalit whose left axis holds the hotel entrance, and three axes on the right. The windows have rounded corners, a mix of basket and segmental arch.
