Oldtimer- und Fahrzeugmuseum Engen, Automobile museum in Engen, Germany
The Oldtimer- and Vehicle Museum Engen is an automobile museum in the German town of Engen displaying vehicles from many decades. The collection ranges from unrestored cars still in rough condition to carefully restored motorcycles and automobiles from before World War II.
A group of twenty enthusiasts founded this museum in early 2013 and opened it to the public that October. The collection has since grown to reflect the development of vehicle technology across different eras.
The exhibits pair vehicles with period objects and photographs that show how people lived with cars in different decades. You see not just the machines themselves, but also the daily life and routines that surrounded driving back then.
No special knowledge is needed to enjoy the visit, as the exhibition is laid out clearly and you can move through it at your own pace. Parking and a cafe on site make it easy to spend several hours exploring.
The museum holds a rare collection of Kramer tractors made between 1925 and 1973 that were typical of rural work in their time. On display are also unusual motorcycles with auxiliary engines and Japanese bikes like the Hoco powered by an English JAP engine.
