Staustufe St. Aldegund - Neef

The Staustufe St. Aldegund-Neef is a barrage and lock system on the Moselle River in Rhineland-Palatinate. It has two lock chambers that allow commercial and passenger vessels to pass while managing water levels for navigation.

The barrage was built in 1963 as part of the Moselkanalisierung project to improve river navigation. A hydroelectric plant was added in 1966 to generate power from the impounded water.

This structure connects the communities of St. Aldegund and Neef and sits within the wine-growing Moselle valley. Visitors can observe how the engineering blends with the landscape and serves the region's needs.

The site is accessible from surrounding roads, with the best views from walking or cycling routes along the riverbank. Visit during daylight hours to observe the lock operations and see vessels passing through.
