Neye-Oberlauf

Neye-Oberlauf is a nature reserve near Wipperfürth that combines wetlands, meadows, and different forest types along the Neye river system. The landscape is shaped by springs of the river that originate in this valley and wind through multiple habitats at varying elevations.

The area was designated as a protected reserve by the German government in 2013 under IUCN Category IV classification. This status aimed to safeguard habitats and species diversity in the region.

Local conservation efforts maintain the natural character of this region, which includes traditional German mixed beech forests and stream valleys.

Visitors can explore the area using the designated walking paths that lead through the valley and connect different habitats. Wearing appropriate footwear is advisable since some areas can be damp and soft.

The protected area includes multiple springs of the Neye River, with elevations ranging from 306 to 400 meters above sea level.
