Schloss Ahlsdorf, Baroque château in Schönewalde, Germany
Schloss Ahlsdorf is a Baroque château in Schönewalde that sits back from the village street behind a front courtyard. The building is surrounded by a large landscaped park containing a small church and tea house among its grounds.
A fortified noble residence stood on this site from 1428, but the main building as it exists today was constructed in 1709. The new building was created under Anton Friedrich von Seyffertitz, who gave the castle its current Baroque appearance.
Inside, original plasterwork and woven wall hangings show how the nobles of that era decorated their homes. These crafted details remain visible today and tell stories about how the family lived back then.
The castle sits about one hour south of Berlin and is easily reached by car. Plan time to explore the grounds properly, as the park is expansive with several buildings spread across different areas to discover.
The grounds hold a mausoleum of the von Siemens family that was restored in 1994 and reveals a long connection between the castle and this famous family. The park also grows rare tree species that visitors can spot while walking through.
