Franziska Library, Church library in Ohnastetten, Germany
The Franziska Library is a church library housed in Saint Pancras Church in Ohnastetten, containing approximately 384 volumes from around 140 different works. The collection consists mainly of theological and pastoral texts selected for clergy work in this rural parish.
The library was founded in 1786 by Duchess Franziska von Hohenheim to spread knowledge in one of Württemberg's poorest parishes. This founding allowed the local clergy to pursue theological education and perform their pastoral duties more effectively.
The collection served the local clergy and shaped religious education within this rural community. It reflects the intellectual focus that was nurtured among the pastoral members here.
The books can be viewed on site in the church, and a complete catalog is available in the K10plus database. Visitors can inquire about opening hours and access through the Evangelical Church of Württemberg or directly at the location.
The collection was brought to Stuttgart's Central Church Library in 2002, where it was fully cataloged. After this comprehensive inventory work, the library returned to its original home in the parish.
