Bellevue di Monaco, Cultural center in Munich, Germany

Bellevue di Monaco is a residential and cultural center in the Glockenbachviertel, housed in renovated buildings on Müllerstraße that were saved from demolition. It provides housing for about 40 people, rented and supervised by youth and social welfare organizations such as Refugio München, alongside an Info-Café open to refugees and Munich residents.

In 2014 Munich residents formed an action alliance to push for refugee housing in vacant city-centre buildings rather than on the outskirts. From this emerged the registered social cooperative Bellevue di Monaco in 2015, which obtained the lease for the Müllerstraße premises in 2016. The buildings were slated for demolition and replacement by a new development; after advocates including prominent figures campaigned to keep them, the City of Munich dropped the demolition and leased the site to the cooperative instead. Renovation of the dilapidated buildings finished in 2018.

The center functions as a gathering place where Munich residents and refugees come together through theater, language classes, and shared meals from different cuisines. These interactions happen naturally through daily activities where people from different backgrounds connect.

The Info-Café on Müllerstraße is an open meeting point for refugees and anyone interested, run as a real café together with residents. Advice on medical, psychological and legal matters, including residence law, is offered there by groups such as the Bavarian Refugee Council and Lichterkette e.V. The rooftop Kurt-Landauer-Platz, opened in October 2020, provides sports space despite the tight site.

The rooftop court opened in October 2020 and is named Kurt-Landauer-Platz, after the Bavarian football player Kurt Landauer. It was built on the roof because the site on Müllerstraße offered no other space for sport. The name is a detail visitors can spot on the court itself.
