Steinbruchsee Billings, Lake in former quarry in Fischbachtal, Germany
Steinbruchsee Billings is a triangular lake formed in an old granite quarry, located in Fischbachtal at 250 meters above sea level. Steep rock walls surround its western, southern, and eastern sides, while the water surface covers roughly one hectare.
This body of water emerged from a granite quarry that stopped operating in 1977, transforming the industrial site into a natural feature. Over the following decades, the abandoned extraction area developed into an important habitat for local wildlife.
A nature trail near the lake features information panels that explain the different habitats and wildlife found in the Fischbachtal region. Walking along this path helps visitors understand the local environment and its natural features.
The lake can be reached via the K72 road, where a shelter and viewing point are located at the northern end. From this spot, visitors have easy access to explore the surrounding area and enjoy views of the water.
