Schlosskapelle St. Trinitatis Moritzburg, Chapel in Moritzburg Castle, Germany.
Schlosskapelle St. Trinitatis Moritzburg is a rectangular chapel located within Moritzburg Castle featuring elaborate interior decoration. Italian plasterers created the stucco work covering the walls and an oval ceiling painting from 1670 depicts the Ascension of Christ.
The chapel was designed by Wolf Caspar von Klengel between 1656 and 1672, establishing its architectural foundation during the Protestant period. Its transformation to a Catholic house of worship followed Augustus the Strong's conversion in 1699.
The chapel displays Italian craftsmanship through its marble sculpture of Christ at the Column of Scourging from 1725 and a Venetian altarpiece showing the Assumption of Mary. These artworks reflect the religious transformations the chapel underwent across the centuries.
Visitors can see the chapel by joining castle guided tours, with services held on the second and fourth Sundays from Easter to Advent. Access timing depends on tour schedules, so it helps to check ahead before planning your visit.
The chapel has hosted a concert series called Musical Vespers since 2018, presenting early music performed on historical instruments. This performance series has established the chapel as a significant venue for early music in the region.
