Moritzburg Castle, Baroque castle and museum in Moritzburg, Germany.
Moritzburg Castle is a baroque structure on an artificial island near Dresden in Saxony. The building features four round towers and a symmetrical layout characteristic of its architectural period.
The hunting lodge was built for Duke Maurice of Saxony between 1542 and 1546. Augustus the Strong later enlarged and transformed it into a grand baroque palace.
The interior displays hunting trophies and gilt leather wall coverings throughout the rooms. One chamber stands out for its decoration made entirely from colored feathers.
The castle is easily accessible from Dresden by car or public transport. Visitors should allow time to explore both the interior of the building and the surrounding park grounds.
The castle grounds contain Saxony's only lighthouse, originally built to light staged naval battles during royal celebrations. This unusual structure served as part of elaborate entertainment for court festivities.
