Ghana Planetarium, Planetarium in Cantonments, Accra, Ghana.
Ghana Planetarium is an astronomy education facility in Accra equipped with modern projection systems. It presents numerous shows throughout the year that explain stars, planets, and space phenomena to visitors.
It was founded in 2009 by Dr. Jacob and Jane Ashong who invested their personal savings into the project. This marked the beginning of astronomy education in West Africa in a dedicated space.
It serves as a gathering place where school groups and visitors come together to learn about stars and planets in a shared setting. The space functions as a learning hub where people of all ages explore astronomical topics in an interactive environment.
It is located behind the Ghana Police Headquarters, making it easy to find and access by vehicle. Weekday visits tend to be less crowded than weekends, which is helpful to keep in mind when planning your visit.
It was the first astronomy education facility of its kind in West Africa. The facility offers specialized clubs in robotics and electronics for children starting from age seven.
