Livadeia

The town spreads across two hills at the foot of Mount Helikon, where the Herkyna river creates a deep gorge between Mount Haghios Ilias and Mount Granitsa.

The Oracle of Trophonios, established in the 6th century BC, attracted prominent figures such as Croesus and Mardonios for consultations and religious ceremonies.

Visitors to the Oracle followed specific rituals, including drinking from two sacred springs called Lethe and Mnemosyne before entering a 4-meter deep ceremonial chamber.

Located 90 kilometers northwest of Athens, Livadeia serves as the administrative center of the Boeotia region with a population of 29,379 residents.

The town maintains remnants of its cotton industry from the Byzantine period alongside ancient temple foundations and a medieval castle structure.
