Orchomenus is an ancient city in Arkadia, Greece, located at approximately 750 meters elevation on a mountainside. The archaeological remains include a theater, public meeting place, council building, and an early Christian basilica distributed across the site.
The settlement began in prehistoric times at the base of the Acropolis and later expanded onto the mountainside. French archaeologists conducting excavations in the early 1900s uncovered the site's primary monuments and structures.
The French Archaeological School at Athens conducted extensive excavations in the early 20th century, revealing significant monuments of historic Orchomenus.
