Lake Doxa

Doxa is a reservoir in Sikyona Municipality on the Greek Peloponnese, sitting at roughly 900 meters (3,000 feet) elevation between two mountain ranges. The water covers a small valley and is framed by forested slopes and rocky ridges.

The reservoir was created in the early 1990s through the construction of a dam for water supply and power generation. The Monastery of Saint George was then relocated to a higher location north of the new body of water.

The Chapel of Agios Fanourios rises on a small peninsula in the middle of the water, reached by a narrow dirt path from the shore. Locals come here to light candles and pray quietly in the tiny church, while visitors walk the path on warm days.

Walking trails run around the shore and through the surrounding forests, some rising gently and offering views over the water. Boats can be rented on site, and a few small accommodations are available in the Feneos area.

Workers uncovered parts of an ancient Roman bath beneath the surface during construction and recovered a small statue of Hermes. These finds were taken to the regional archaeological museum, where visitors can view them today.
