Panagia Kernitsis monastery in Arcadia, Medieval monastery in Gortynia Municipality, Greece
The monastery stands at an elevation of 840 meters, surrounded by mountains and situated near the village of Nympassia in the Arcadia region.
During the late 17th century, the monastery functioned as a secret educational center before transforming into a formal school that relocated to Vytina in 1710.
The monastery's katholikon contains paintings by artist Rallis Kopsidis and features an ornate iconostasis created by craftsman G. Dinopoulos in 1901.
Visitors reach the monastery through mountain paths and stone stairs, leading to a courtyard that provides views of Mount Mainalon and surrounding peaks.
A cave near the katholikon houses a particular icon of the Virgin Mary, traditionally associated with healing mental and mobility conditions.
