Panagia Kernitsis monastery in Arcadia

Panagia Kernitsis monastery is a medieval religious complex located in the mountains of Gortynia, surrounded by forest and steep slopes. The main building contains a decorated church with an altar screen and a stone-paved courtyard offering views across the peaks.

Within the complex there is a cave containing a special icon of the Virgin Mary that visitors have sought out for generations as a place of spiritual significance. This hidden location is less obvious than the main buildings but draws pilgrims who make the detour to find it.
