Museum of Asian Art, Asian art museum in Spianada Square, Greece.
The Museum of Asian Art occupies the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George, a neoclassical building on Corfu with formal rooms on the upper floor. The space displays sculptures, ceramics, and traditional weapons gathered from multiple Asian countries.
The museum began in 1928 when Gregorios Manos donated his collection of Asian artworks to the Greek state, creating the foundation for the institution. This generous gift established what remains the core of what is displayed today.
The collection represents artistic traditions from several Asian countries, showing works that reflect how different peoples created and valued art. Visitors can see objects from China, Japan, India, and other regions that reveal what mattered to these cultures across time.
The palace spans multiple levels to explore at your own pace, and it is good to allow time to examine the rooms without hurrying. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as natural lighting varies throughout the spaces.
On the second floor, medals of a chivalric order are painted directly onto the palace walls, creating an unusual decorative feature. These hand-painted badges appear nowhere else in the building and give these rooms a distinctive character.
