Irakleides municipality, Former municipality zone in Kos Island, Greece.
Irakleides was a former municipality covering the western portion of Kos Island, encompassing several coastal settlements and inland villages. The territory included areas such as Antimacheia and other communities spread across both the shoreline and interior regions.
This municipality functioned as an independent administrative unit on the island for centuries. In 2011 it was merged into the larger Kos municipality as part of Greek government reforms.
The village of Antimacheia within Irakleides maintains traditional Greek architectural elements across its residential buildings and public squares.
Visitors can reach this area easily by ferry to Kardamena port or through Kos Airport near Antimacheia. A car is the best option for exploring the various villages and coastal areas.
This former area was once the largest administrative division on the island and represented a major portion of its land mass. Despite the merger, the region maintains its own local identity and community structures.
