Agistri, Island in Saronic Gulf, Greece

Agistri is an island in the Saronic Gulf near Athens, covered with dense pine forests and surrounded by clear Mediterranean waters. Three settlements—Milos, Skala, and Limenaria—form the main communities, while beaches like Aponissos and Dragonera line the coast.

The island received settlers from Arvanite communities during the late 17th century, who established the main settlements that exist today. These early inhabitants shaped local traditions and ways of life that continue to define the communities.

The three main villages of Milos, Skala, and Limenaria host traditional Greek celebrations throughout the year with local music and dancing. These gatherings show how community bonds remain strong in daily life and how people here maintain their customs.

Regular ferries connect Piraeus to Skala, and local buses transport visitors between the island's beaches and settlements. Since the island is car-free, walking is the primary way to get around and explore the different areas.

A population of peafowls roams freely across the island, creating unexpected wildlife encounters for visitors. These birds are a curious feature that sets this place apart from other Mediterranean islands.
