Archaeological museum of Florina

The Archaeological Museum of Florina occupies a two-story building that displays finds from many different time periods discovered in the region through excavations. The collection includes objects from prehistoric times, the Hellenistic period, Roman times, and the Byzantine era.

The museum opened in 1969 in a newly built structure and underwent major internal renovations in 1999. These improvements made the regional archaeological discoveries more accessible and better preserved for visitors.

The exhibits include Roman grave markers, sculptures, and inscriptions that show how ancient people lived, what they believed in, and how they organized their communities. These objects come from local digs and help you understand the region's past firsthand.

The museum is easy to reach and offers displays that are understandable even without special background knowledge. It is worth spending enough time to view all the exhibition rooms and objects from the different periods.

The collection includes a mammoth jaw from the village of Sotiras that is tens of thousands of years old and shows what ancient animal life was like in the region. This discovery reveals that the Florina area once had a completely different wildlife.
