Moni Genesiou Theotokou Damastas, Byzantine monastery in Lamia Municipality, Greece.

Moni Genesiou Theotokou Damastas is a Byzantine monastery in Lamia Municipality, built on a mountainside at around 1,900 feet (580 meters) above sea level. The complex is made up of stone buildings with traditional Byzantine architectural features that sit closely against the hillside rock.

The monastery dates back to the Byzantine period and was founded at this remote mountain location as a place of retreat for a religious community. It was later listed as a protected archaeological site in Greece, a status that helps ensure its preservation.

The monastery is dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary, which is the meaning of its Greek name, Genesiou Theotokou. On that feast day, Orthodox Christians from the surrounding area gather here for services, making it a living place of worship rather than just a historic site.

The monastery is reached from Lamia via a road that becomes narrow and steep in its final stretch, so a careful driver or a short walk is needed. Wearing sturdy footwear is a good idea, as the ground around the complex can be uneven.

The interior walls of the monastery are covered with frescoes depicting biblical scenes, painted in the Byzantine tradition. These wall paintings have survived in a readable state, which gives a concrete sense of how the space was used for devotion and instruction over the centuries.
