National Park of Tzoumerka, Peristeri & Arachthos Gorge

This national park in Epirus covers a vast area of mountains, valleys, and forests across the region. The terrain includes high peaks and deep river valleys that create diverse habitats throughout the protected land.

The park was formally established in the early 21st century to protect the region and its communities. Traditional villages within the park have maintained ways of life based on farming and herding that lasted for centuries in these mountains.

Ancient monasteries such as Kipina and Panagia Tsoukas are built into the cliffs and represent long-standing religious practices in the region. These structures remain central to how locals and visitors understand the spiritual identity of the mountain communities.

Several mountain roads provide access to different parts of the park, with small villages offering lodging and food supplies for visitors. Bring sturdy footwear and be prepared for changing weather conditions common in highland areas.

The Arachthos River has carved deep gorges and created dramatic waterfalls that change seasonally in power and appearance. During winter and spring, these falls are at their most intense, while summer brings much quieter water flow.
