Salt Museum

The Salt Museum in Tourlida documents traditional salt harvesting in the Mesologgi region through tools, techniques, and historical photographs from the area. It shows how workers extracted salt from water and sediment using methods passed down over generations.

The museum opened in 2020 inside a former dormitory building that housed salt workers, which later served as a hay storage facility. This structure reflects the region's transformation from active salt production to preservation of its industrial past.

Salt production shaped daily life and work in this region for centuries, connecting families to the water and land around them. Visitors see how this industry was woven into the fabric of the community.

The museum sits near the Mesologgi salterns where much of Greece's salt is still harvested, and it offers educational programs about traditional techniques. Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the pathways to exhibits can be uneven in places.

The museum displays Afrina, Greece's only fleur de sel, a rare salt variety that forms only under specific weather conditions at the nearby salterns. These delicate crystals are hand-collected using traditional methods and have a distinctive mineral character.
