Patras Lighthouse, Stone lighthouse in Agios Andreas, Greece.
Patras Lighthouse is a white cylindrical tower with a projecting balcony and lantern room situated near Saint Andrew's Cathedral. The ground floor holds a restaurant and café, while the surrounding seaside park provides space for visitors to stroll and rest.
A wooden lighthouse was built in 1858 but was destroyed in a storm, leading to the construction of a stone version in 1878. The structure was demolished in 1972 and reconstructed in 1999 at its current location.
Today the lighthouse serves as a meeting point where locals gather for coffee and conversation while overlooking the water. The space has shifted from a functional aid to a social anchor that connects people to the waterfront.
The site is easily reached on foot from the harbor or old town and sits right along the waterfront. Visitors should arrive in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy the clearest views across the gulf.
The current structure does not stand at its original location but was relocated and rebuilt in 1999 after destruction. This makes it a site that physically embodies different phases of local recovery and adaptation.
