Garden of the Heroes

The Garden of the Heroes in Mesologgi is a memorial park containing monuments dedicated to 69 Greeks and international supporters of the independence movement. The site features marble statues and monuments throughout, with an area honoring the fallen and displays that explain the events of that period.

The site was the location of a siege in 1824 when Lord Byron and Greek fighters defended against Ottoman forces. This episode became a defining moment for the independence movement and shaped the garden's role as a memorial.

The garden hosts annual memorial ceremonies on Palm Sunday, with a procession departing from Saint Spyridon Church to honor those remembered there. These gatherings show how the space serves as a focal point for the community to mark shared history.

The garden is centrally located and easy to access, with paths throughout that allow visitors to walk between the monuments. Informational displays are positioned throughout the site to help you understand the history as you explore.
