Agia Triada Monastery, Sparmos, Eastern Orthodox monastery on Mount Olympus, Greece.
Agia Triada Monastery, also known as Sparmos Monastery, is an Eastern Orthodox monastery on the southwestern slopes of Mount Olympus, at around 3,300 feet (1,000 m) above sea level. It consists of a stone church, side rooms used as a museum and religious shop, and a courtyard with colonnades and benches.
The monastery was founded in 1386, making it one of the older religious sites in the area around Mount Olympus. It went through major rebuilding in the late 18th century, which shaped much of what visitors see today.
The monastery holds a collection of early icons and liturgical objects displayed inside the church and adjacent rooms. Visitors walking through the spaces can see these pieces up close, set within walls decorated with frescos.
As an active religious site, visitors are expected to dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees before entering. Some areas may be closed during services, so it is worth checking before heading inside.
The church floor is made of marble with inlaid patterns using a mix of stone types, bricks, and natural rock. This level of craft is unusual for a monastery at this altitude and in such a remote location.
