Theocharakis Foundation, Art and music foundation in Kolonaki, Greece
The Theocharakis Foundation is an art museum and cultural center housed in a 1920s building in central Athens. The space contains exhibition galleries, a lecture hall for performances, a cafe, and a bookshop all in one location.
The foundation was established in 2004 by Basil and Marina Theocharakis and opened to visitors in 2007. The building itself came from an earlier era and was adapted for its current cultural purpose.
The foundation regularly presents art exhibitions and music performances shown together in the same space. Visitors experience here a connection between visual works and live shows that gives the place its distinctive character.
The center is located at the corner of Vasilissis Sofias and Merlin Street in the Kolonaki neighborhood, easily reached by public transport. The site has parking available and is well-designed for visitors with limited mobility.
The interwar building was designed by architect Vassilis Tsagris and shows the architectural style of that period. Its rooms were deliberately chosen for combining art exhibitions with music events.
