Dimitrios P., Shipwreck on the coast of the Mani peninsula, Greece

Dimitrios P. is a shipwreck resting on Valtaki Beach near Gythio, in the southern Peloponnese of Greece. The rusted hull of the old cargo ship lies partly on the sand and partly in the water, and its full outline is still visible from the shore.

The ship was built in Denmark in 1950 under the name Klintholm and later bought by Greek owners in Piraeus, who renamed it Dimitrios. After an emergency stop in Gythio in December 1980 and a long stay in the harbor, a storm in December 1981 pushed it onto the beach where it has remained ever since.

Valtaki Beach is easy to reach on foot, and the wreck is visible directly from the shoreline. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes when walking near the hull, as the rusted metal can be sharp, and climbing on the structure is not safe.

Despite its reputation as a ghost ship, the real story behind the wreck is far more ordinary, rooted in a captain's illness, unpaid debts, and a storm. The beach where it rests is also a nesting area for sea turtles, which adds a layer of natural interest to the site.
