Tram line 2, Tramway in Lyon, France
Tram Line 2 is a modern transit line in Lyon that connects Saint-Priest to the Confluence district, spanning about 16 kilometers (10 miles) with around 32 stops along the way. The route passes through multiple neighborhoods, parts of downtown Lyon, the suburb of Bron, and various residential areas with schools, hospitals, and cultural venues nearby.
The line began service in 2001 and was one of the first modern tram lines to return to Lyon after decades without tram transport. It replaced older bus routes and played a role in reducing traffic congestion and air pollution across the city.
The line serves as a connection between residential neighborhoods and work areas, schools, and local shops in daily life. It allows people to explore different parts of the city and communities without using a car.
Trams run daily year-round, starting around 5 am until after midnight, with departures every 5 to 7 minutes during peak hours. All stations and trams are fully accessible with low floors and wheelchair spaces, and signs provide clear information about upcoming stops.
Part of the route runs alongside the Saone river, giving passengers views of the water and bridges crossing it during their journey. This proximity to the river adds a distinctive perspective to traveling through the city.
