Livry-Gargan, Residential commune in Seine-Saint-Denis, France
Livry-Gargan is a residential town in Seine-Saint-Denis located about 15 kilometers northeast of Paris. The commune spreads across hilly terrain with schools, green spaces, and housing developments that grew mostly during the 20th century.
The settlement began in the Middle Ages as Liberiacum and fell under the control of the Garlande family. In the 13th century the territory changed hands and later followed the development of the Paris region.
The Château de la Forêt shapes the town's character with its 19th-century architecture, showing how wealthy families once lived here. The community has preserved these buildings, which continue to define the area's appearance today.
The town connects well to Paris by public transport, including tram service that reaches the city center. Visitors find schools, shops, and parks spread throughout, making walking or cycling easy ways to explore.
The area borders the Parc de la Poudrerie, a former military park with remarkably varied tree species. This green band contrasts sharply with the dense housing around it.
