Gascony, Historical province in southwestern France

The region spans from the Pyrenees mountains to Bordeaux, encompassing the departments of Landes, Gers, and parts of Haute-Garonne.

The territory became a duchy in 602 under Basque leadership, remaining a significant political entity until its incorporation into the French kingdom in 1453.

The Gascon dialect, influenced by Basque language, represents a distinct branch of Occitan and remains present in local expressions and literature.

The area contains numerous medieval castles, fortified towns, and wine regions that visitors can explore through designated tourist routes.

The region produced notable literary figures, including the real d'Artagnan who inspired Alexandre Dumas's character in The Three Musketeers.
