Échezeaux

Échezeaux is a Grand Cru vineyard that slopes gently above Clos de Vougeot, covering about 35 hectares. It divides into eleven distinct sections, each with varying soil compositions ranging from clay-heavy to stony terrain.

It received official recognition as a controlled origin designation in 1937, establishing its formal status. This certification solidified its standing as one of Burgundy's finest wine regions.

The name originates from Latin, relating to its past use as a meeting place for local commerce. Today, more than 80 producers work individual plots here, keeping alive centuries-old practices in Pinot Noir production.

The vineyard sits on a hillside and is accessible via walking paths for those wishing to explore its sections. Visit between May and October for the most pleasant conditions and to see the vines in full growth.

Each parcel here is managed under strict rules, including a minimum planting density of 9,000 vines per hectare. This high density requirement is among France's most demanding wine regulations.
