ENSAIT

ENSAIT is an engineering school in Roubaix housed in a grand building designed by architect Ferdinand Dutert. The institution offers two educational paths: regular coursework or apprenticeship programs through which students gain international experience.

The school was founded in 1881 and initially specialized in decorative arts, mechanics, physics, chemistry, and textile production techniques. By 1910 it became a textile university and shifted its focus toward advancing technical innovation in the industry.

The school maintains a vibrant student culture with its own traditions, songs, and rituals deeply connected to engineering education. These customs shape daily life on campus and create a strong sense of community among students.

The attached GEMTEX research lab works on groundbreaking textile projects, including luminous fabrics for medical applications. This work shows how the school tackles modern healthcare challenges through fabric innovation.
