Montparnasse Tower, Observation deck in 15th arrondissement, France
Montparnasse Tower is a skyscraper in the 15th arrondissement of Paris built from reinforced concrete, glass and metal. The structure rises over 59 floors and ends with a rooftop terrace that offers a full circle view over the capital.
Construction started in 1969 and finished in 1973, when the Parisian skyline gained a new landmark. The project sparked debates about tall buildings in the historic city center and led to stricter building regulations afterward.
The name comes from Mount Parnassus in Greek mythology and was adopted for this neighborhood in the 18th century. The observation platform draws daily crowds who study the city and its monuments from a bird's-eye perspective.
Fast elevators bring visitors up to the viewing platform at the top of the building. Access to the terrace happens through the lower floors, where you collect entry tickets and then ride upward.
A bar on the 56th floor allows guests to enjoy drinks while taking in views of the surrounding neighborhoods. At night the tower lights up from the outside and becomes visible from distant parts of the city.
