Château Le Pin, Private winery in Pomerol, France
Château Le Pin is a winery in Pomerol situated on a two-hectare estate with sandy gravel soil over limestone bedrock. The vineyard focuses exclusively on growing Merlot grapes, which are harvested by hand and processed carefully.
The estate was established in 1924 by the Laubie family and underwent major changes when Jacques Thienpont acquired it in 1979. This transition marked a significant turning point for how the property would develop and be managed.
The property takes its name from a solitary pine tree standing near the vineyard, a practice rooted in how French wine regions have historically marked their land with distinctive natural features.
The winery features modern equipment with small stainless steel tanks and gravity-based systems for moving wine through production. Visits are by appointment only, as this is a private operation.
Production remains small, yielding only about 600 to 700 cases of wine each year. This limited output reflects the careful hand-selection of grapes and aging in new oak barrels that lasts many months.
