Île-de-France tramway Line 1, Tram service in Asnières-sur-Seine, France
The Île-de-France tramway Line 1 is a rail service in Asnières-sur-Seine running along a 17-kilometer route through several suburbs north of Paris. The route runs from Noisy-le-Sec in the east to Asnières in the northwest and serves 36 stops along the way.
Service began in July 1992 and brought trams back to the Paris region for the first time in decades. The opening followed extensive construction works that linked western and eastern suburban belts through a new rail connection.
The service connects outer suburbs with inner communities and has shaped commuting habits for many residents who previously relied on buses. Today commuters use it for work trips while locals rely on it for daily errands within the region.
Vehicles run from early morning until after midnight with extended hours on weekends into the early morning. During rush hours waiting times drop to just a few minutes between vehicles.
The trains often carry colorful advertising wraps on their exterior surfaces that shape the streetscape of the suburbs. At terminal stops short turnaround maneuvers show the driver switching cabins to begin the return journey.
