Two villages, Comps and La Ganne, merged with Peyrelevade through a law enacted in 1831, expanding the territorial boundaries of the commune.
The name Peyrelevade originates from the Auvergne expression 'Peira Levada', which translates to 'raised stone' in the local dialect.
